Community of
Practice Hub
Four sessions exploring the Mindset GPS framework — Growth Mindset, Purpose & Relevance, and Sense of Belonging — and how they work together to transform Kentucky student success.
Sep 2025 — Feb 2026
Communities of Practice
Sessions 1–3 each explore one construct of the Mindset GPS framework. The fourth and final session weaves Growth Mindset, Purpose & Relevance, and Sense of Belonging together as a capstone close-out.
Belief that intelligence can be developed through hard work, the use of effective strategies, and help from others when needed.
Belief that one is academically and socially connected, supported, and respected.
Belief that one's schoolwork is valuable because it is connected to a larger purpose and/or relevant to one's life.
A capstone conversation uniting all three GPS constructs — Growth Mindset, Purpose & Relevance, and Sense of Belonging — exploring how they work together to transform student success and close out the 2025–2026 Community of Practice series.

Two major convenings bring the Kentucky Mindset Academy community together to celebrate, share, and commit to what's next.
The Mindset GPS Convening brings educators from across Kentucky together to strengthen how we support student motivation, especially in high-stakes moments when learning gets hard. Anchored at the Kentucky Student Success Summit, we invite faculty and staff from across Kentucky who are interested in learning more about learning mindsets to join us. Together, we'll share and practice evidence-based, classroom-ready strategies that build key learning mindsets: Growth Mindset, Purpose and Relevance, and Sense of Belonging. Participants will leave with a shared framework, practical tools they can use right away, and clear next steps for sustaining motivation-building practices.

Our Purpose
Kentucky Mindset Academy
The Kentucky Mindset Academy is part of a statewide effort to improve student outcomes in gateway and developmental education courses. In recent years, Kentucky has made important strides — replacing traditional remedial education with corequisite models that allow students to enroll directly in credit-bearing courses while receiving academic support. This shift has led to meaningful increases in retention and graduation rates. But to ensure these reforms benefit all students — we must focus not only on access, but also on how we teach and support students once they're in the classroom.
That's where the Kentucky Mindset Academy comes in. Through a partnership between the Kentucky Student Success Collaborative (KYSSC) and Motivate Lab, faculty and instructors will be able to participate in this professional development program that focuses on fostering adaptive learning mindsets among students. This year-long professional development opportunity is open to both faculty and adult education instructors, with preference given to those teaching Mathematics, English, or corequisite courses. The program aims to support educators in strengthening instructional practices and fostering student success in these foundational areas. Along the way, faculty will participate in an online course, test small instructional changes, learn from peers in a community of practice, and receive coaching to build more motivationally supportive classroom environments. This is a unique opportunity for Kentucky educators to shape the future of gateway instruction — and help students succeed from their very first college course.
What This Experience Offers
Hands-On. Collaborative. Built for You.
Our program is hands-on and collaborative as we work together to incorporate learning mindsets organically with faculty that include the following:
01
Motivating Learners Course
Acquire knowledge on learning mindsets (e.g., Mindset GPS), practice identifying and creating mindset-supportive messages, and apply your learning by submitting projects you can leverage in the classroom.
02
Surveys
Empower yourself to make informed choices in your teaching approach based on comprehensive survey findings. These surveys are for instructors, faculty, and administration.
03
Communities of Practice & Summits
Deepen your understanding of motivational strategies and learning mindset-supportive messaging in a collaborative environment alongside your peers and colleagues.
04
Community Building Support
Receive personalized support from faculty colleagues, helping you build and sustain instructional improvement efforts within their campus community.
